Wishcrafting

Bring the project you'd like to see come to life, no matter how impractical at the time (and also no matter how small compared to what you see on Instagram). It's like a business pitch competition but for efforts that are sustained by passion (and optionally by money), and where you don't really have all the answers, or even all the questions. BTW, the goal is just as much to inspire and encourage the non-presenters in the group... everyone should be uplifted.

  • Each meeting is announced ahead of time, personal-invite-only. Other participants always appreciate effort put into the presentations.

    • A group of 4-5 is most desirable, to allow variety but also to allow time for each participant to get into good questions.
  • Each person presents Wishes for 5-15 minutes.

  • Catch questions for 10-20 minutes.

    • A moderator is recommended, if only to call out when time is up. Mature moderators can help ask even better questions to prompt discussion, or help redirect to other participants to ensure broad input.

Here are sample invite instructions for the participants:

  • Prepare.

    • Plan for 5-10 minutes to describe or show your idea.
    • Start with the dream, motivation, passion... the reasons for your Wish.
    • Explain your plans. This is the meat. It can be at any level of definition, but aim to end with what you think are the next concrete problems, actions, or goals.
    • If you have an invite for others to help or participate later, aim to have concrete things they can do independently.
  • Present Wishes (5-15 minutes).

    • You have a friendly, captive audience... enjoy!
    • If you want interaction, remember to pause and solicit questions along the way.
  • Catch questions (10-15 minutes... for a total of about 15-30 minutes, based on other time allowances/constraints).

    • Anyone can ask questions and give advice.
    • Brainstorms are encouraged. Consider alternative problem statements, timelines, audiences, invites, and even Dreams. Here are some questions you might ask:
      • Who is doing something similar? What are the products or organizations that overlap?
      • What are the blogs or feeds you use for inspiration?
      • What progress or change would you love to see in 1 year? In 5 years? Next week?
      • How long have you been excited about this, and what progress can we celebrate now?
      • Who are your other friends with whom you have not discussed this yet?
      • What is your biggest challenge or need?
      • What is the part of this that you understand the least?
      • What inspires you the most -- even if it's unrelated to this? (This could spark totally unrelated ideas.)

Enjoy!
